This is running?!

So, there I was, one early evening in August, running. The route, roughly mapped, the weather sunny but not too hot, the distance underestimated again. If you ever get the opportunity, the track from Capel Curig to Tryfan, off road, is sublime and relatively flat, which is unusual for Snowdonia.

Any discomfort slips away as you lift your head to the magnificent worn but hewn landscape, as you slip past bemused sheep and cattle, through campsites which are in essence a field with gargling brooks and the occasional solitary person quietly sat in a deck chair. Through kissing gates with their rust worn locks, past walkers returning from north ridge scrambles, across dry, tyre marked gravel lanes.

Head first into the slowly descending sun as it moves right towards Carneddau. The shadows falling from Glyderau to the left provide a cool refrain. The journey is quiet but steadfast the destination reached seems to be just the start.
